Key West Fishing
Because of Key West’s ideal location, great fishing is available year round. Key West is home to one of Florida’s largest fishing fleets. Fishing is available in the open water, the natural coral reefs and the many shipwrecks near Key West. For the Key West deep-sea fisherman, you can expect to catch marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dolphin, blackfin tuna, kingfish, barracuda, or monster shark. The shallow waters of reefs and shipwrecks are home to amberjack, grouper and snapper.

Here is a short listing of when is the best time to catch certain fish.
January - March: Kingfish, Wahoo, Tuna
April - June: Sailfish, Dolphin, Marlin
July - September: Marlin, Wahoo, Dolphin
October - December: Sailfish, Tuna, Kingfish
Key West Fishing Tournament
If you need a little bit of competition to go along with your fishing, you should check out the Key West Fishing Tournament. This is a 7-month long running tournament for fishermen in the Key West area. For each fish species, the heaviest fish wins in categories for mens, womens, juniors and peewees. You don't have to be a resident of Key West to enter.
Fishing Without a Boat
It is possible to fish in Key West without chartering a boat. The White Street Pier has space for more relaxed fishing. You might even catch snapper, shark or snook. Fishing is allowed on a few bridges throught the Lower Keys. These bridges will have signs for parking and trash recepticles.
What to Bring on a Fishing Charter
Remember that Key West is a tropical environment, so it is hot and sunny all the time. When you go on a fishing charter, be sure to bring sunscreen, bandana, lightweight long sleeve shirt, non-marking soled shoes, sunglasses and a hat.
